About Narges Amiri

Narges Amiri is a contemporary visual artist based in Dubai. Her practice is rooted in the tradition of Persian calligraphy and extends into abstraction and mixed media, bringing centuries-old letterforms into a contemporary visual language.
Across her work, calligraphy becomes both subject and material — a way to explore silence, duality, and the space between the spoken and the unspoken, the ancient and the contemporary.
“I don't paint letters — I paint the emotions that live between them. Every curve holds a breath, every line carries a memory. My art is a conversation between the ancient and the new, between silence and song.”
Working primarily on canvas, Narges builds layered surfaces where calligraphic gesture meets material exploration. Her practice draws on acrylic, gold and silver leaf, and texture paste, often combined within a single composition.
Gold leaf appears throughout the work as both material and light — a surface that catches and holds the viewer's attention. Calligraphic forms are layered, repeated, and abstracted, moving between legible script and pure form across calligraphy, abstract, and mixed-media pieces.
